Today, we are delighted to announce the Fellows & Scholars for this year’s American Short Fiction Workshop.
Marisa Crane is a writer, basketball player, and sweatpants enthusiast. Their work has appeared or is forthcoming in Joyland, No Tokens, TriQuarterly, Passages North, Florida Review, The Offing, Lit Hub, The Adroit Journal, and elsewhere. An attendee of the Tin House Workshop and Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, they are the author of the debut novel, I Keep My Exoskeletons to Myself, which was a January Indie Next Pick and New York Times Editors’ Choice. They currently live in San Diego with their wife and child.
Bessie Flores Zaldívar is from Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Libertad, Bessie’s debut YA novel is forthcoming with Penguin for Young Readers in the summer of 2024.
Reginald Kent is a mixed-Asian writer-scholar who holds an M.F.A from The University of Washington’s program in Creative Writing. He will be continuing his scholarship in its Ph.D. program in Literature and Culture in Autumn 2023 and also holds an M.A. in English Literature from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. Reggie has been published in the Quarterly Literary Review of Singapore and has work featured in The Best Asian Short Stories 2022 collection (KITAAB). Reggie’s creative work and scholarship focus on diaspora and queerness. He seeks to define and render an “Alternative Fullness” towards resisting White-cis-heteronormativity while celebrating the literature of the Global Majority.
S.M. Sukardi is a writer, essayist, and occasional critic from the suburbs of Southern California. They have received fellowships from Kundiman, the National Book Critics Circle, and Periplus.
